In Mumbai, many people land up in Chor Bazaar (The
thieves Market) to get unique things to decorate their homes. Even a few interiordecorators do the same. They spruce it up and the client has a brand new piece
in place. In such instances, do you really need such a person to do up your
place? Not everyone wants to cut corners when they have invested so much in a
home. They would like to have a neat and organized place that offers a comfort
zone. In such a busy city, if you are able to find solace in the home, it is
because it has certain elements that are attractive. These may be interiors,
well-crafted spaces for privacy. This is not the only reason Mumbaikars are
indulging in sophisticated interior and exteriors.
If you look at the number of magazines and digital
resources on interiors, it is amazing how much the city has changed homeowners
tastes. Lifestyles are changing and it is reflecting in the way people are
decorating their homes with things picked up from the Chor Bazaar or their
travels abroad. Even lack of space is not a constraint and this is great. Even
if some people cannot afford designers, they are turning to interior decoratorsto make their spaces habitable.
When you
need a decorator and not a designer?
When you need mere new furnishings, curtains and
dressing up a decorator is sufficient. They cannot modify the outlook or make
any structural changes in the home. They can merely transform the current
settings. Like change of upholstery, redo the room. A designer in turn is
qualified and has a degree to make architectural modifications. They offer a
blueprint for the entire design and can decorate it. Take for example; you need
to decorate your bedroom and redo the color scheme with the furnishings before
Diwali.
Here is what you can do. Ask the interior decorator to
visit the home and ask for assistance. He may ask what prompts you to make the
change. Is it the bed or the décor or colors? He will make a note of giving
some ideas based on this conversation. Maybe it will also be the time to change
the position of the bed. Will it be compatible to vastu and feng shui
principles? You will have to sort it out with the decorator. Yes, you will need
a decorator before making the modifications.
